The initial history

Image
The history and the brickwork was one of the main reasons why we had to buy this property. The history behind the names on the foundation stones has been well documented at  http://www.reginaldstanley.com/chapel-end-wesleyan-chapel.php , an interesting read that talks about the day the memorial stones were laid on 18th April 1887. The laying of the memorial stones, tea and talks raised £150 (£15000 in today's money! Maybe my brother and I should have offered tea and talks to raise some).  However, despite all the information about the memorial stones there doesn't seem to be anything relating to the initials that have been carved into some of the bricks. On first thoughts, it could be some type of memorial to long term parishioners of the church, or those that have donated to the church. It has also been suggested that it could be the initials of the bricklayers who worked on the building. Following all the physical digging I've had to do, now it is time to do some historic

Tree-mendous job done!

... the debris from the land. It's as if there has been a plague of locusts clear the jungle of a backyard we had. With help from friends and family (and Leigh's digger!), we managed to clear the topsoil, vegetation and tree stumps, in preparation for the retaining garden wall. Before... ....and after.
